Los Angeles is only the second city in the United States to host the Summit of the Americas, which brings together political leaders, civil society organisations, and business executives from North, South, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean, to promote inter-hemispheric cooperation, economic growth, and regional security.

The inaugural summit was held in 1994 in Miami, which is often regarded as the heart of Latin America in the United States. However, the Biden administration chose Los Angeles this time, citing its “deep and robust linkages throughout our hemisphere.”
