Naomi Judd, the matriarch of the Judds, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound a day before being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, according to her family.

In an interview aired on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Judd’s daughter Ashley Judd said her mother suffered from mental illness, a sickness that convinces sufferers “you are not loved, you are not enough, you are not worthy.”

“Our mother couldn’t wait till her colleagues inducted her into the Hall of Fame.” Ashley Judd, a 54-year-old actor, remarked, “That was the kind of tragedy that was going on inside of her.”

“She made use of a weapon.” She stated of her mother’s death, which was disclosed in April, “Mother used a firearm.”

Ashley Judd stated in a televised interview that she was releasing the cause of death to preserve “control” over the material before it became public, potentially due to leaks regarding Judd’s autopsy.

The family’s admission came after news that the number of gun fatalities in the United States had risen to its highest level since 1994 during the epidemic. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday that gun suicides, the main cause of gun deaths, reached 24,245 in 2020.

The Judds, who included Naomi and her daughter Wynonna Judd, 57, were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on May 1.
